When you think of fitness, do you just see it as something that you have no time for in your schedule? If is the case, then you have a very narrow view of the subject. Fitness is so much more, and it can be personalized so that it works with your own schedule. Read on to find out how.
One way to maximize your fitness routine is to work out with a friend. This will help with positive thinking and also help to push you further than you might have gone otherwise. Humans typically are competitive in nature. This will add a sense of camaraderie and competition to your workouts.
Work out your abs without doing crunches. That’s right, all you have to do is to take a deep breath and on the exhale, simply squeeze your belly to your spine and hold it for about 10 seconds. You’ll be working your transversus abdominis muscle, which lays behind more prominent abdominal muscles but can flatten your stomach noticeably.
Challenge yourself. Increase the amount of exercise that you do every day or every other day. You will eventually hit a plateau in your exercise routine and not be doing yourself any good when you get used to what you do normally. They always say ‘no pain, no gain’.
Use the stairs instead of the elevators whenever you can. Stair climbing is a great way to get a little exercise during the day. A few flights of stairs can give you a good workout for your heart and legs. When you do this throughout the day at work, you would be surprised at how much exercise you are able to fit in by the time you leave for home.
Add calcium rich foods, such as low-fat milk to your daily diet to boost the effects of your workouts. Try to consume at least 600 milligrams or more of calcium everyday. This about two glasses of low-fat milk. Also add other calcium-rich items to your diet such as broccoli, cottage cheese, low-fat yogurt, etc.
A good way to try and recover faster is to work out the muscles that you had worked out the previous day, but lightly instead. This will act like stretching your muscles and will make blood travel faster through your muscles which will in turn deliver more nutrients to them.
A great fitness tip is to use safety pins when you’re bench pressing or performing squats. You can set up safety pins at a spot where you don’t want to lift any further. The safety pins will hold the weight if you don’t have the strength to finish the lift.
If you want to find a way to get more of a work out do some yard work. There are always jobs to perform in the yard, and they require physical exertion. It’s an answer to two problems! Doing yard work just once a week can provide you with a great, fun workout. Working in your yard is a great way to improve both your property and your body.
When you are not a morning person and you want to build a morning exercise habit, start with an activity that doesn’t even seem like exercise. For instance, for the first few weeks, go for a nice outdoor walk that doesn’t require you to change into fitness wear. Next thing you know, you body will have built a habit and you can progress to a more intense exercise.
Always rest your squat bar on your shoulders. If you are performing squats using a weight bar for added benefit, never allow the bar to rest on your neck. Placing it on your shoulders ensures that you will not have an accidental neck injury from having too much weight placed on a sensitive area.
Before you start lifting, you should press one of your fingers into the bench to see if you feel any wood. You should find another bench to work with if you feel any. Hard benches have been known to cause misalignment of your spine and to cause some damage to the nerves in the arms.
In order to more effectively target your back muscles, don’t wrap your thumb around the bar when performing pullups. It is much better to place your thumb on top of the bar. Performing pullups in this manner will reduce the amount of involvement your arm muscles have during the exercise and force your back to work harder.
You should avoid sit-ups and crunches in positions which anchor your feet. There is a vast array of variations on these basic ab exercises, and not all of them are created equal. When you anchor your feet to exercise your abs you are placing undue stress on your lower back. This reduces the effectiveness of the exercise and puts you at risk of injury.
Start an exercise program that doesn’t cost anything. Even if you can’t afford to join a gym or buy expensive home-training equipment, you can still get a great workout. Go down to your local school on the weekends and play basketball or run on the track. Even walking briskly through your neighborhood can give you decent cardio without spending a dime.
